Roller skating enthusiasts in Monterey have reason to celebrate as Monterey Skates opens its doors at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. Founded by Max Troyer and Morgan Goyette, both Monterey Bay Roller Derby members, the new rink aims to revive the local skating scene that has been absent since the closure of Water City in Marina in 2020 and Del Monte Gardens in 2011.
Soft Launch and Upcoming Events
The official grand opening is scheduled for June 20–22. Following the launch, Monterey Skates plans to host pop-up skating events one weekend each month throughout the year. These sessions will cater to various age groups, including kids, families, teens, and adults, and will feature rental skates in all sizes, skate lessons, and themed nights.
Facility Features and Future Plans
Located in the King City Room at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, the rink offers a family-friendly environment with a snack bar and plans for magical roller skating birthday parties. Looking ahead, Monterey Skates envisions expanding into a comprehensive family entertainment center featuring a massive indoor play structure, arcade, and innovative café.
