School’s out, and we’re making the most of it — slowly, intentionally, and together.
This summer, Monterey Bay Parent is partnering with local dad Beau to bring you a weekly video series of simple, screen-free activities designed to help families slow down and savor the season. Beau, who is dad to Archie and Esme, is passionate about unplugging and being present, and his ideas are the kind that require nothing more than a little time, some imagination, and the people you love most.
In this first video, Beau shares two easy drawing games — “Quick Draw” and “The Doodle Game” — that the whole family can play, from toddlers to grandparents, with nothing but paper and something to draw with. No prep, no supplies to buy, no experience required. Just laughter, a little friendly competition, and some wonderfully weird collaborative art.
Whether you’re at home, waiting at a restaurant, or soaking up one of Monterey County’s beautiful summer days, these games travel well and are guaranteed to get everyone off their screens and into the moment.
Stay tuned each week for a new idea from Beau and his family — and if you try these games at home, we’d love to see what you create!
