The California Rodeo Salinas, one of the top 15 regular season rodeos in the United States, returns July 17–20, 2025, at the Salinas Sports Complex. Known for its thrilling rodeo competitions the event also offers an array of family-friendly activities.
Rodeo Carnival: July 11–20
Families can kick off the fun early with the Rodeo Carnival, held from July 11 to July 20 at 295 Sun Way in Salinas. The carnival is open daily from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM and features rides, games, and classic fair food. Unlimited ride wristbands are available for $30 and can be purchased at the link. It’s a great way to warm up for the rodeo festivities while keeping kids entertained.

Kiddie Kapers Parade: July 13
The beloved Kiddie Kapers Parade occurs Sunday July 13, at 3:00 PM. Starting at the Salinas Recreation Center and ending at the Steinbeck Center, the parade features local children in creative costumes, decorated bikes, and even wagons. It’s a fun, free celebration of youthful imagination and community pride. For more information.
Kids Corral: July 17–20
A highlight for families attending the rodeo is the McDonald’s Kids Corral, a free interactive area with hands-on activities for children. The Corral is open during rodeo hours: 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday and Friday (July 17–18) and 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday (July 19–20).
Kids Corral activities include:

- Giant bubble round-up
- Sand and water play areas
- Petting zoo
- Dramatic play farmers market

Mutton Busting & Stick Horse Races
For little rodeo stars in the making, the Mutton Busting competition lets children try their hand at riding a sheep. Events are scheduled for July 17–18 at 6:00 PM and July 19–20 at 1:15 PM. The Stick Horse Race, a hilarious and heartwarming event for young kids, takes place on Thursday, July 17, at 4:30 PM.

Fiestas del Rodeo: July 20
A new addition this year, Fiestas del Rodeo, takes place on Sunday, July 21. This community event celebrates Mexican heritage with traditional games, mariachi music, and autograph opportunities with the Escaramuza riders. Rodeo Events: July 17–20
Of course, the heart of the celebration is the rodeo itself. From bull riding and steer wrestling to saddle bronc and team roping, over 600 of the best rodeo athletes in North America compete in front of crowds topping 50,000 over four days. The California Rodeo Salinas awards nearly $400,000 in prize money and maintains a legacy dating back to 1911.
