Free family event brings history to life with live music, blacksmithing, roping demonstrations, and more
Mark your calendars, Monterey County families — Rancho Day at the Adobe is back on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and it’s the kind of hands-on history lesson kids won’t want to leave.
Hosted by the Monterey County Historical Society at their Salinas location, this free, family-friendly event opens up the historical Boronda Adobe grounds for a full day of California rancho-era culture — no textbooks required.

Kids and parents alike can wander through the grounds and catch:
- Live music and historical re-enactments
- Blacksmithing demonstrations — watch metal get shaped the old-fashioned way
- Cowboy roping displays
- Dancing Charro Horses
- Tours through the site’s historical buildings
- Arts and crafts activities for the kids
- A big produce sale
- Visiting ambassadors from cultural and historical institutions from around the region
- High-end food trucks for anyone who works up an appetite
It’s a great option for families looking for something outdoorsy, educational, and budget-friendly (translation: free) to fill a Saturday.
