- Separate structures for different ages
- Lots of green space
- Parking during school drop-off and pick-up can be problematic so time your visit
Laurel Park is a charming park next to Henry F. Kammann Elementary School in Salinas. It is an excellent location for those picking up their kids; they could burn more energy right after class. You can access the park by W. Laurel Drive or Rochex Ave. This park has a playground with three structures and a basketball court, a tennis court, and a baseball field.
Laurel Park offers a toddler structure and another for older kids; both are on woodchips. The structures, unfortunately, are not wheelchair accessible. The third structure is swings made for toddlers and older children. There is a monkey bar in the older kids’ structure (and as you can tell, Victoria is still working on this skill).
There are no BBQ grills or tables, so if you are thinking of spending time there, pack things for a nice picnic on the grass. Laurel Park has enough green spaces for fun picnics.
Laurel Park is open from sunrise to sunset; we could not find a sign stating anything about dogs, but as a common courtesy for everyone, if you are taking your furry friend to this park, make sure to use a leash and clean after them.
This park has very few designated parking spaces; it is right next to a school and in a residential neighborhood, so drop-off and pick-up times during school are very busy.
At least three families were having fun at the park during our visit. One of them was having a little picnic on the grass. Victoria took her bubbles, so we played with them as well. Laurel Park is very suitable for walking and family activities.
All parks in Salinas are first come, first served. So if you are celebrating a party and would like to add a bounce house, only certain parks allow you to bring one with the required permit. Call 831-758-7306 for inquiries.
Overall, this was a great visit; Victoria enjoyed her afternoon. This is a great park for those who want to be active and engage in a sport, those who want to relax and sit down, and the kiddos who want to run and climb.
