Monterey Recreation Preschool Programs

By | January 25, 2025

Monterey Recreation operates Preschool Programs, for children ages 3-5 years, at El Estero Park Center and Hilltop Park Center. Each preschool site is coordinated by the center’s Recreation Coordinator and staffed with experienced Preschool Instructors.

It is our goal to instruct your child in the fundamentals of learning, surrounded by a healthy, structured and caring atmosphere. We realize the importance of developing learning skills, and our program emphasizes that children learn best through play. The curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate activities that foster the creative, social, emotional, language and physical growth of each child. We provide a safe and nurturing environment where your child’s need for discovery and development is recognized, while promoting self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-determination.

Your child’s daily routine will include various activities in art, music, science, math, pre-reading and writing skills, movement and story-time. Twice a year, a basic progress report will be sent home for you to track your child’s development. Preschool Instructors and Recreation Coordinators are always available to meet with you to discuss any concerns regarding your child’s Preschool experience.

Our program strives to develop acceptance and appreciation of the similarities and differences between people and cultures. Our staff models appropriate behavior and assist the children in resolving conflicts in social interaction. Children learn to accept the consequences of their decisions and strengthen problem-solving skills.

The Preschool Program is offered Tuesday-Friday from 9:30am until 12:30pm. Registration is by appointment only. For more information and to check availability, please call the Preschool location of your choice.

Monterey Bay Charter School

By | January 24, 2025

In 1998, parents and teachers, inspired by the Waldorf model of education, founded Monterey Bay Charter School. In 2006, the school was given its first autonomous charter status by the Board of the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE). Monterey Bay Charter School is a tuition-free public school using the core principles of Public Waldorf Education aligned to the state standards.

The school’s emphasis is a solid academic foundation, artistic expression, and social / emotional development. A holistic, arts-integrated approach to learning emphasizes the child’s relationship to the natural world thereby promoting respect for the environment and humankind. The goal is to nurture the whole child with the objective of enabling students to become self-motivated, competent life-long learners.

As a County-authorized charter school, students come from all communities including Seaside, Monterey, Marina, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Big Sur, Prunedale and Salinas. Committed to educating the whole child, the school endeavors to foster the unfolding of each child’s full potential.

Monterey Bay Charter School is the 2025 Monterey Bay Parent Family Favorite in the Charter School category.
