The Sea Otter Classic Foundation (SOCF) is shifting into gear this spring with its Bike Skills School Assembly Program and the return of the Life Time Sea Otter Classic cycling festival at Laguna Seca Raceway, April 10–13, 2025.
15 Years of Inspiring Young Cyclists
For the 15th year, the SOCF is bringing exciting, educational bike skills assemblies to elementary schools across Monterey County. Led by professional mountain biker Jeff Lenosky, these presentations combine safety tips, bike-handling demonstrations, and a dose of inspiration to help kids develop a love for cycling.
Lenosky’s engaging approach makes learning fun—he shows off pro tricks while teaching practical skills that empower young riders to hit the road with confidence. Every student who attends an assembly receives a raffle ticket for a brand-new bike, which they can redeem at the Sea Otter Classic’s Family Zone during the festival.
This year’s assemblies will visit schools in Monterey, Salinas, Seaside, and Pacific Grove from March 31 through April 9. A lucky student from each school will win a free bike—just one of the many ways SOCF encourages kids to stay active and safe.
Don’t Miss Family Day at the Sea Otter Classic
During the four-day Sea Otter Classic festival, the Family Zone offers a variety of kid-friendly activities. Daily events include:
- Kids’ Bike Races – Age-appropriate cycling competitions just for young riders
- Bike Safety & Skills Demos – Watch pros like Lenosky in action and pick up essential riding tips
- Egg Hunts – A favorite for the little ones
- Bike Giveaway Raffle – Assembly attendees can turn in their raffle tickets to win a new bike
Kids 12 and under plus up to two accompanying adults get in free on Sunday, April 13 (9:00 AM – 2:00 PM).
More Than a Festival: A Community Impact
In 2024, SOCF awarded more than $90,000 in grants to local community partners and continues to power programs like the E-Bikes for Veterans Program, which helps veterans at the Veterans Transition Center gain independence through sustainable transportation.
With over 1,000 volunteers from 40+ local organizations, SOCF’s community efforts extend far beyond the race track, supporting health, wellness, and active lifestyles for all ages.
