SVMH Foundation-Children’s Miracle Network

The program, operated by the Salinas Valley Health Foundation, provides grants for children (infancy to age 19) in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties to cover medically beneficial equipment and services not covered by insurance. The program funds items such as mobility devices, hearing aids, and specialized therapies. 

Children’s Miracle Network at Salinas Valley Health Foundation is proud to offer a special program for children in need of medical equipment or services that are not otherwise covered by insurance. Parents, guardians, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) of children up to age 19 that live in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties, are eligible to apply. Application requirements include income verification, a letter of medical benefit from a licensed care provider, and a completed application form. Eligibility expires on the child’s 20th birthday.

Special Kids Connect

Nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop resources, raise awareness, and provide support to individuals with disabilities and their families. Special Kids Connect provides parent training and individualized support to families whose children are eligible to receive special education services through their school district. In addition, Special Kids Connect offers a portfolio of REACH programs, designed to encourage youth with and without disabilities to enjoy recreational pursuits in inclusive settings. Special Kids Connect also hosts monthly parent and child inclusive playgroups for young children. For teens and young adults, it offers Neurodiverse Connect social offerings.

Partnership for Children

Partnership for Children believes that all children living with serious illness should have access to the care and emotional support they need to live life as fully as possible. Their  mission is to increase access to medical care for children living with serious illness and to support their families. They provide medical transportation and family support for children with serious illness.

Rise Literacy

RISE Literacy provides evidence-based, individualized instruction to strengthen reading, writing, and spelling skills. Lessons are taught by credentialed education specialists using a structured literacy approach that builds confidence and helps students thrive. We offer one-on-one tutoring, small groups, and homeschool support.

Instruction at RISE Literacy is grounded in The Science of Reading. The Science of Reading is a body of research that explains how the brain learns to read and what teaching methods help all students succeed. Structured literacy applies this research through explicit, systematic instruction in phonics, spelling, and language skills. Together, they ensure that reading instruction is clear, effective, and accessible for every learner.

Chartwell School

Chartwell School serves students in grades 1-12 with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences through a highly individualized, college-preparatory program on California’s Central Coast. 

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all curriculum, Chartwell builds learning plans around each student’s specific profile, using structured literacy instruction, multi-sensory teaching methods, and project-based learning to help students who have often struggled in traditional classroom settings. With class sizes under 10 and a 1:4 teacher-student ratio, students receive close, consistent attention that allows instruction to be adjusted in real time to how each student learns best.

Chartwell offers a range of support services that work alongside classroom instruction. Occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and counseling address the sensory, communication, and emotional needs that often accompany learning differences. Social-emotional learning is built into the school day, helping students develop self-awareness, resilience, and healthy relationships alongside their academic progress.

This combination of small-group instruction and coordinated support services reflects Chartwell’s core belief: students with learning differences make the greatest progress when their educational and social-emotional needs are addressed together. By pairing personalized teaching with these additional services, Chartwell helps each student close skill gaps, build on their strengths, and move forward with the tools and confidence to succeed in school and beyond.
