About Us

Monterey Bay Parent serves the families of Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. The foundation of MBP is our monthly print publication. Each issue is filled with articles that make parenting in the Monterey Bay easier and more enjoyable. You’ll also find a robust calendar of events filled with fun and informative things to do in the area in each print issue and on our website.

We also publish a once-yearly Monterey Bay Military Parent for the many military families who make Monterey County their home.

Monterey Bay Parent writers, designer, and editor have received numerous awards of excellence from the Parenting Media Association over the past six years with nine awards in 2024 including the Gold General Excellence award for Monterey Bay Military Parent.

Publisher

Andrea Breznay

Andrea Breznay is the publisher of Monterey Bay Parent. Andrea relocated back to the Monterey Bay from Naples, Florida where she was the founder and publisher of Neapolitan Family, SWFL Special Needs Family, Bonita/Estero Family, and SWFL Retiree magazine.

Andrea lived in Monterey County for many years after graduating from The University of California, Santa Cruz. She is the mother of an adult daughter and the grandparent of two young children. She is an accomplished photographer, writer, and artist. Andrea is the president of Parenting Media Association, a trade organization for publishers.

Sales Representative

Jenna Keisling

Jenna Keisling is the Sales Executive for Monterey Bay Parent. Growing up in Salinas, she is a native to the Monterey Peninsula. Jenna has over three years’ experience in sales and marketing as well as more than ten years’ experience in the customer service and healthcare industries. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and young son.

Katherine Stephens

Katherine Stephens attended California State University, Monterey Bay where she studied Cinematic Arts and Technology. While there, she met her husband in the freshmen dorms and they eventually married in Monterey’s historic Memory Garden. She became hooked on the Monterey Bay community and has remained a resident ever since graduating nearly a decade ago. Katherine has over three years experience working for a successful parenting blog based in the Bay Area, even appearing in some of its comedic viral videos. When not working, you can find her chasing after her three young children and mischievous black lab.

Intern

Emily Alonso

Emily Alonso grew up in the Los Angeles area and is a recent graduate from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, where she studied English. Emily is a Content Writer and Creator for a sustainable women’s clothing boutique, De Mita, located in Los Angeles and online.

During her time in college, she was a volunteer instructor for an educational club on campus called Sprout Up where local elementary school students were able to learn more about the environment. She worked as a writing tutor at her campus’ Writing and Learning Center to provide further support for students in their studies and assignments. In her senior year, Emily was involved in the Mustang Mentorship Program as a mentor for a high school senior from an underrepresented background, offering guidance and advice for her mentee.

During her free time, Emily enjoys drawing, writing, dancing, nature, listening to music and traveling.

Insider

Brooke Powell

Brooke was born and raised in Santa Cruz and has always dreamed of being teacher. She graduated from Cabrillo College’s Early Childhood Education program and has been caring for young children for over a decade now. From teaching in the preschool & toddler classrooms, to being on summer camp stuff, or volunteering at her church’s Sunday school… to now being a mom of 2, she truly has a heart for leading the little ones. She currently teaches her own music exploration classes at local parks (“Mini & Me Music Class”) and coordinates fun and engaging park playdate activities too, as well as participates in local children’s events too.

In addition to being a content creator for Monterey Bay Parent, you can find Brooke on YouTube reading storybooks as children’s books & early literacy are her passions.
