About Youth Orchestra Salinas: Founded in the Summer of 2010, Youth Orchestra Salinas (YOSAL) is an El Sistema-inspired orchestral music education program and a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of our community's youth through music. YOSAL provides free musical education and ensemble playing experiences to students, nurturing their growth not only as musicians but also as individuals. The program emphasizes discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, contributing to the social and academic success of its participants. Students learn to be responsible citizens and develop interpersonal and collaborative skills as their self-confidence grows. Working with local school boards and social organizations, YOSAL operates as a tuition-free program year-round. Surveys have shown that YOSAL students benefit from improved study habits, grades, relationships at home and in school, and enhanced self-esteem and confidence. Currently serving 250 students from over 35 different schools in school districts throughout the city of Salinas and County schools, YOSAL continues to make a significant impact in our community.
