The Monterey Symphony is continuing its mission to introduce as many students as possible to the magical experience of live professional music. Four free concerts will be held in Salinas and Carmel in September. The Youth Concerts are geared to students in grades 3-8 to spark an interest in the Music In Schools curriculum.
The concerts will not be highlights of the symphony’s masterworks concerts but will focus on highlights from their Pops concerts series called Love Letter to Hollywood.
According to Nicola Shangrow Reilly, Symphony President, and CEO: “We’re super excited to bring back our youth concerts! It’s such a fun way to introduce students to a full, live orchestra, and the music this year – Star Wars, Black Panther, Coco, and more – makes it even more special.”
The concerts will bring students from all over Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties to the Symphony at no charge to the students or schools. All local students are welcome, including students who attend homeschool, private school, parochial school, and public school.
The concert schedule:
- September 6 at 10 AM at the Forest Theater in Carmel
- September 6 at 11:30 AM at the Forest Theater in Carmel
- September 7 at 9:30 AM at Sherwood Hall in Salinas
- September 7 at 11:00 AM at Sherwood Hall in Salinas
Bus scholarships are limited for schools that don’t have the means to arrange transportation for attending students. Advanced registration is required.
