If you have a child or family member with a permanent disability, there’s an excellent opportunity to explore nature’s beauty—for free. The America the Beautiful Access Pass provides lifetime free entry to over 2,000 federal recreation sites, including all U.S. National Parks, for U.S. citizens and permanent residents who have a permanent disability.
One of the closest national parks to Monterey County is Pinnacles National Park, located east of Soledad in southern Monterey County. Just an hour drive from Monterey, Pinnacles offers dramatic rock formations, talus caves, and the chance to spot California condors soaring overhead. The park features challenging and family-friendly hiking trails, and the east entrance includes a visitor center with information, restrooms, and picnic areas.
