May honors “Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People" (MMIWGTS). On Saturday, May 6th, you can participate in "Red Dress Day” at the Oldemeyer Center, 986 Hilby Ave., Seaside, from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm.
The May 6th event begins with a Memorial Ceremony featuring the Indigenous Unity Singers followed by panel discussions about the state of California legislation on MMIW led by Upper Klamath Shasta tribe member and Indigenous Psychologist Dr. Barbara Bane and “Indigenous Women Breaking Barriers” led by Gregg Castro, Culture Director of the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone – the original people of the San Francisco Peninsula. Enjoy lunch along with storytellers, drummers, singers, and dancers while raising awareness about violence against indigenous women.
