Monterey Bay Art & Film Festival for Youth
to
CSUMB World Theatre 5260 Sixth Avenue, Seaside, California 93955
Like the kids this film and art festival is created for, MAFFY sure has grown. It’s expanded into a three-day, three-location, roving creative jamboree of stuff from more than 30 countries. The first day (3:30-5:45pm, Thursday, April 20) it camps out at CSU Monterey Bay’s World Theater, opening with a Palenke Arts youth choir performance as a prelude to a slate of local short films for youth and short animations from around the world, while in the lobby sits an exhibition of art from MPUSD art and animation workshops. The next day, Friday, is a biggie. Film programs, workshops and demonstrations take turns in multiple rooms of CSUMB @ Salinas City Center (aka the Steinbeck Center), one after another and in tandem, from 10:30am-7pm, stuff like Russia’s Space Dogs feature and a YOSAL orchestra performance. On Saturday the proceedings move over the the Watsonville Public Library for more children’s and youth films 12:15-5pm. It’s put together by Cinematic Arts & Technology animation professor Soyeon Kim. It is a lot of stuff, all free, plan well. Kids, bring your parents. [WR]
