Lgbtqia+ Pride Month Family Ride
to
Dennis the Menace Park 777 Pearl Street, Monterey, California 93940
Sponsored by Families of Color Monterey County, Family Biking Monterey County, and The Friends of the Marina Library join us as we celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month! One month isn’t enough time to explore the wide range of stories that exist but we intend to try! Please bring your favorite kids' books celebrating LGBTQIA+ folks of color, and at the end of the ride at Dennis The Menace Park we'll gather and share our families' favorites. All families welcome!Knowing our history helps build a brighter future for all children and books are an excellent tool to help families understand, appreciate, and facilitate dialogue. We will meet in the parking lot across from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey and head towards Dennis The Menace Park where we'll share the books our families have brought and watch our kids play! Don't have a bike? No worries! We'll do our best to keep the pace slow, so those on walking, rolling, and/or with strollers can keep up. If you want to just meet us at the park, that's also an excellent option. Hope to see you there! Please note a helmet is required for all participants under 18 years of age. For recommendations and how to properly fit a helmet, please join the group: Family Biking Monterey County. We will have a couple pink/purple/orange Bell helmets (donated by the City of Monterey) that typically fit kids age 5-8 available to use during the ride. If you need one, please let us know ahead of time, so we can plan accordingly. There are bathrooms at this location. However, there is no gender neutral availability. Please bring your own lunch. There is a picnic area. We recommend bringing your own blanket/chair as there are limited benches available around the playground area for seating. Also, bike parking is limited to just one rack (please bring a lock, if you need one) but we are working on having a local company provide valet service.Founded by Families of Color Monterey County (FoCMC) in October of 2016, Family Biking Monterey County is a grassroots effort dedicated to making bicycling accessible and affordable through advocacy, education, and community building.
