The Felton Farmers’ Market is Open as of May 4 for the 2021 season!
We are so glad to be stepping into this year with an exceptional group of farms and food businesses, solid systems for Covid-19 safety, and the return of live music and cafe seating for the enjoyment of all. The Felton Market will also host expanded hours, running Tuesdays 1-6pm. This provides residents with an opportunity to grab lunch or dinner and families the flexibility to shop for groceries before school gets out or with the kids later in the afternoon/early evening. We’re working hard to meet all the needs and niches we can so put the market on your weekly calendar this year!
The Market
The Felton Farmers’ Market was started in 1987 and is the second oldest market in Santa Cruz County. SCCFM took over operations in 2009 and our team has developed deep ties to the community. Every Tuesday through October a quality collection of regional farms and food businesses throw up their tents to sell a colorful array of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, artisanal bread, seafood and other staple foods. Connecting residents directly with local farms, the Felton Market is an essential part of the regional food system as well as a resource for nutritious organic foods and basic agricultural education.
This year the farms you love return and Watsonville-based Mora Family Farm joins with chicken, duck and quail eggs, apples, preserves and more. Other highlights include H&H Fresh Fish with catch from the Bay and Frog & Feather Farm with seasonal bouquets. The food truck rotation brings a huge selection of culinary traditions to market – eat El Salvadorean pupusas, Tibetan dumplings, Italian pizza and others week to week. Burgeoning food business Chicken Foot showcases the talents of Felton-raised Jessica Yarr and her culinary heritage. Find traditional Eastern European dishes like sweet potato, sour cherry and cheese filled pierogi with sour cream and apple butter or traditional Georgian stuffed cheese bread with herbs and a side of spring veggies. Standard favorites include RoliRoti Rotisserie chicken and potatoes, Sharp Quick knife sharpening with Terry Beech, the Penny Ice Creamery and Beckmann’s and Companion bakeries.
This seasonal market is a favorite for the communities living in the San Lorenzo Valley and is located in the heart of downtown Felton on Hwy 9. Known for its family-centered culture and celebratory ambiance it belongs on your weekly calendar.
EBT & Market Match
EBT/Market Match and Credit/Debit services END at 5:45pm at the Felton Market.
Market Match offers farmers’ market customers a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10 on their CalFresh/EBT (food stamp) cards at the Felton Farmers’ Market. If a customer swipes their CalFresh card for seven dollars, they get an additional seven dollars in Market Match tokens for free. Swipe $10, you get $10. The goal of this project is to encourage CalFresh/EBT recipients to take advantage of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. By offering an incentive that lowers the price of fresh produce, we are helping shoppers stretch their food dollars while keeping their families healthy. SCCFM will be offering the Market Match program for the 2021 season. Locate the information booth and the market manager to redeem EBT coins and to participate in the Market Match Program.
