The City of Monterey has announced a $10,000 donation to the Food Bank for Monterey County, providing timely support as local families head into the holiday season and winter months. The Monterey City Council approved the funding at its November 18, 2025 meeting.
The Food Bank for Monterey County remains a vital lifeline for thousands of residents. Currently, the organization serves 1 in 4 county residents, including 1 in 3 seniors and 1 in 3 children. Its services in the City of Monterey include mobile produce and free-food distributions, medically tailored groceries, and weekly senior produce bags. The Food Bank also partners with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and supports 12 nonprofits within the city, including the food distribution program at the City of Monterey’s Scholze Park Center.
During the holidays, the Food Bank provides seasonal meal kits—complete with a turkey and traditional sides—and supports community Thanksgiving and Christmas meals held at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
“We are proud to join in contributing to the Food Bank for Monterey County, especially at this critical time of year,” said Nat Rojanasathira, Assistant City Manager of Monterey. “We’re hopeful others will join us as well. No one in our community should ever go hungry.”
“Now more than ever, support is critical as federal and state cuts to anti-hunger programs have further strained our ability to address alarming levels of need,” said Melissa Kendrick, Executive Director & CEO of the Food Bank for Monterey County. “We are truly grateful for our collaboration with the City of Monterey.”
Reservations for this year’s Community Thanksgiving Drive-Thru Dinner—organized by the City of Monterey, the Food Bank for Monterey County, and the Kiwanis Club of Monterey—are currently full.
