The Waterfront Lot 1 at the Monterey Harbor entrance is complete and it is time to celebrate. The City of Monterey is hosting a ribbon-cutting and “Meet the Fleet” event on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The morning will feature a welcome by Mayor Tyller Williamson, followed by an official ribbon-cutting, a fun opportunity for kids to see up close some of the city fleet displayed, and time to enjoy cupcakes, coffee, and conversation. Parents are encouraged to bring their young children to see some of the equipment used to reconstruct the lot which regularly serves the entire city.
“Youngsters who love big-wheeled vehicles will have fun seeing a few of the city vehicles on display, and will be able to start collecting limited edition “Meet the Fleet” trading cards,” said Public Works Director Andrea Renny.
In 2019 we celebrated the completion of phase one of the lot reconstruction, the section closer to the entrance to Old Fisherman’s Wharf. The completion of this second phase seamlessly connects the two lots. It also brings significant improvements to traffic flow and safety for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, as well as to the overall esthetics of the area. In addition, a new bioretention feature has been added to capture and filter stormwater runoff from the parking lot before it flows to the Monterey Bay.
The ribbon-cutting event takes place at 250 Figueroa Street in the parking area near the entrance to the commercial wharf (Wharf II). The lot name is Waterfront Lot 1. Visitors can pay by plate at the pay station using a credit card or coin, or by using zone #21031 on the ParkMobile App. Prices are $1.50/hour, $10 daily max; double space $2.00/hour, $16 daily max; RV parking permitted, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For event parking, the first hour is free in the downtown parking garages.
