Archer Park is located in New Monterey and has features for kids of all ages but it's best for those four and up. There are designated parking spots along Archer Street as well as general street parking. The park has a grassy field, a group BBQ area, picnic tables, a play structure, and a basketball court. When the basketball court is not being used, it is a great place for younger children to practice riding bikes or scooters.
Archer Park offers a beautiful view of Monterey Bay and has a nice mix of big oak trees and native flowers and plants. Because I recommend it for children who are a little older–who don't need constant attention–it's a nice park for a parent or caregiver to sit and enjoy nature and the gorgeous view of the bay.
The grass field includes a large BBQ pit and plenty of picnic tables, perfect for larger gatherings and picnics. There are picnic tables closer to the play structures as well. You can park there to do some work or read a book if you have older kids who don't need your eyes on them constantly.
Archer Park's play equipment is completely fenced in, adding an element of safety and security. There is a small winding path around the play structure and tables for taking a break and having snacks. Unfortunately, the play structure's ground surface is wood chips and is not accessible for people in wheelchairs.
The play structure at Archer has a combination of slides, monkey bars, and even a small rock-climbing wall. I do think the play structure is for bigger kids, ranging from 4-10. Smaller children might find the height of the climbing equipment and large slides a bit intimidating. There are no small slides or swings at this park.
Archer Park does have one public bathroom open during park hours and a water fountain. If you would like to make a reservation for Archer Park to have a party, jump house, or even reserve the field, you can visit the Monterey Parks and Recreation website.
