Archie’s hair has been getting in his eyes lately and bothering him. I mentioned that if he got a haircut, he could see better, and the hair would stay out of his eyes. I said that since he’s almost five years old, he’s more brave and might no longer be scared of haircuts. He latched onto that idea and seemed to believe it. To try and further ensure a successful haircut, I suggested that we take pictures and make a video so he could show other kids how to be brave for haircuts. He liked that idea, and we did it!
Here’s the evidence. Not a single tear was shed. He was so brave. He let our barber use the clippers, the blow dryer, and the hot towel! He has never let her use the blow dryer or towel before. I was beaming and told him so many times how proud of him I was. He said he was proud of himself and that he felt brave. I have wished for this day! My boy is growing up.
I take Archie to Bixby Barber Co. in Carmel-By-The-Sea to my barber, Rachel. She is the owner and has cut my hair for years. She is very skilled and does awesome work. She gave Archie his first haircut three years ago, and we’ve always taken him to her. She doesn’t offer a kid's haircut price - we pay for a men’s haircut, but she does an amazing job. She’s a mom, and she’s always been very patient and understanding with Archie.
Archie asked me if I showed his haircut video to “all the kids in the world” to help them be brave, so here it is. It would make Archie very happy to know if it helps someone overcome their fear of haircuts.
