Is it time for your little one to start school? Registering your children for transitional kindergarten or kindergarten isn’t as daunting as you might think. If your child turns five years old before September 1, they can attend kindergarten, and if they turn five between September 2 and March 1 of the academic year, they can attend transitional kindergarten.
Monterey Peninsula Unified School District
- Download the necessary forms from the website, complete, and submit them with the required documents in one of the locked drop boxes (recently installed) at your school of residence.
- Pick up an enrollment packet at any school site and return it to your school of residence when completed.
- Download the necessary forms from the website, complete, scan/email back with the required documents to dteran@mpusd.k12.ca.us and they will be forwarded to your school of residence for processing.
Parents will need to provide the following:
- New student registration form
- Emergency contact form
- Proof of residence (lease agreement, utility bill, etc.)
- Proof of child’s age - prior to admission of a child to kindergarten or first grade, proof of the child’s age is required. Evidence may include a certified birth certificate or a statement by the local registrar or county recorder certifying the date of birth, a baptism certificate, or a passport.
- Immunization records must be completed prior to enrolling in transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, or if a first-time student in the district.
- Oral health assessment
- Proof of physical examination (if enrolling in kindergarten or 1st grade; physical exam must be conducted within 18 months upon entering 1st grade)
Pacific Grove Unified School District
If you live in Pacific Grove, your child will register with Pacific Grove Unified School District. The district offers one Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program, which is located at Forest Grove Elementary. When TK students begin Kindergarten, they attend the school site based on their residence. For kindergarten, elementary-aged students will be assigned a school based on their address within the district.

Carmel Unified School District
For those living in Carmel Valley, Carmel, and Big Sur, more registration information will be found at carmelunified.org.
After residency is established, you can start the registration process. The first step is to complete a residency affidavit which can be found on the district website. Parents then need to provide the following documentation:
- A copy of your child’s birth verification
- A copy of immunization records.
- Report of Health Examination completed by a physician. (This form is due before the start of school).
- Oral Health Assessment completed by a dentist due by May 31 of the child’s first year in school.
- When residency is established, your child’s information will be entered into the student information system. Within 1-2 working days, parents will receive an email from CUSD with the information needed to login on to the Aeries registration portal where you can complete and submit your online registration.
Private Schools
